Ex-brothel up for sale

A Cornwall hotel that once housed a notorious licensed brothel and is believed to be the first place in the UK to sell Guinness has gone up for sale with a price tag of around £340,000.

The Skidden House Hotel in St Ives is thought to date from 1540, making it the town's oldest hotel.

It was once a coaching inn and according to legend, also enjoyed a spell as a house of ill repute.

In the eighteenth century it had a close relationship with brewer Arthur Guinness, who in 1789 agreed to supply it with his company's stout.

It has eight bedrooms, along with a 20-seat restaurant, bar and owner's accommodation.

Agent Miller & Son is handling the sale.
