Ex-manager wins in tribunal

A woman who took Compass Group to an industrial tribunal, claiming sexual discrimination, has won £56,000.

Denise Clark, former public relations manager for Compass's Letheby & Christopher leisure and sporting division, claimed that she was made redundant in June last year because she was pregnant (Caterer, 13 January, page 4).

During the two-day hearing at the Employment Tribunal in Woburn Place, London, evidence was heard from Clark and from Compass's human resources manager, Hilary Green, and human resources development director, Chris Gray.

After the case, a Compass statement said: "Letheby & Christopher was surprised by the decision. The redundancy was one of 10 made by Letheby & Christopher as part of an ongoing reorganisation programme. The company accepts that, unfortunately, its processes were not rigorously followed in this particular instance."

Clark hopes to find another job in the near future.
