Feathers hotel sold to a private buyer

The Feathers hotel in Ludlow, Shropshire, has been sold to a private buyer, Sam Cenay.

It was one of seven hotels that Corus and Regal Hotels put on the market in October last year and was sold for close to the asking price of £1.75m.

The 40-bedroom hotel, re-built in 1619, is a Grade I-listed coaching inn which is reputed to have the oldest timber façade in the country.

Jonathan Irwin of Christie & Co, which handled the sale, said: "As one of the finest timber-framed buildings in England, the Feathers hotel is a nationally acknowledged treasure."

Corus and Regal is part of the Regal Hotel Group, which was bought in July last year by London Vista, a subsidiary of Malayan United Industries, for £88.5m.

It operates more than 90 hotels throughout the UK.
