Germany lifts eurest gold

Germany took top honours at the first Eurest International Salon Culinaire, held at London's Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre earlier this month.

The team (pictured above) won a gold medal and took the Prix de Salon award for best overall performance. USA and two separate UK teams also achieved gold medals. Both UK teams were captained by Darren Thompson, executive chef at Morgan Stanley in London.

Each of the competing teams entered five chefs, with both the UK and France submitting two teams each because of the large number of contracts held in their countries. In total, 70 chefs from 14 countries took part, including teams from Europe, North America, Africa and Scandinavia. The competition featured nine categories, including modern plated cuisine, show platters, petit fours and an open class.

Judges at the event included Prue Leith and Heinz Brunner, vice-president of the World Association of Cooks and chairman of the12-strong team of salon judges.
