Geronimo Inns in £1.3m refurb of historic Clarence pub

Geronimo Inns has announced the £1.3m refurbishment of the historic Clarence pub in London's Whitehall, at which Winston Churchill was said to be a regular.

The site has now been entirely renovated, including a 40-seat dining space - plus capacity for 60 people standing - called the Tin Belly Dining Room, named after the nickname for the Blues and Royals Cavalry Regiment, whose home is nearby.

The dining room also joins the refurbished Bulldog Bar, which itself is named after Churchill's iconic dog.

The seasonal menu serves classic British dishes such as toad in the hole with Lancashire bomb mash, cider onion gravy and buttered spinach; and smoked haddock and prawn pie. The drinks menu will focus on cask ales including Young's bitter and London craft beers.

Patrick Dardis, retail director at Geronimo Inns, said: "We're excited that the Clarence refurbishment will soon be completed and are positive that our customers will love the changes that have been made. We are confident it will be a welcome addition to the Whitehall area."

Part of the Young's & Co pub group, the food-led Geronimo Inns comprises 40 pubs across London, including the Northcote in Battersea, the Grocer in Spitalfields and the Bull's Head in Barnes.
