Great Eastern finally takes paying guests

The Great Eastern hotel, near Liverpool Street station in London, will finally be ready to take overnight guests on 28 February following a lengthy delay in opening after its £65m refurbishment.

The hotel was planned to reopen in September 1999. However, this month's launch will continue the piecemeal opening pattern begun in November, when two restaurants - the fine-dining Aurora and the Terminus all-day bar and grill - opened to the public, along with the GE club and bar.

In four days' time the hotel will also officially open 166 of its total of 257 bedrooms, two of 12 private-dining/event rooms and two more restaurants, the English-style George bar and the Fishmarket fish, oyster and Champagne restaurant.
