Guides decide it's time to invest in diamonds
A diamond symbol has been chosen to denote guesthouses, B&Bs, inns and other serviced accommodation in AA, RAC and English Tourist Board guides when their harmonised quality system is launched in August 1999. A common star sign was agreed last year for hotels.
The diamond will replace the ETB's current crown symbol and the AA's "Q" mark. The RAC does not use a symbol for guesthouses at present and describes them as RAC-listed, acclaimed or highly acclaimed.
The choice of diamonds follows extensive market research in which the diamond design was supported by 89% of consumers and two-thirds of accommodation providers.
