Hand-held terminal

THE H-Hot hand-held computer shown at Hostec by Symbol Technologies has an integrated payment facility for optimum turnround of diner orders and seats. It enables waiting staff to input orders directly into a Symbol PPT 2700 hand-held computer which then wireless communicates customer orders to the kitchen. Operation is interactive so that if a dish is no longer available in the kitchen, the waiter gets to know immediately enabling the customer to make another choice without delay.

The system also provides revenue boosting prompts for staff enabling them to recommend side orders, desserts or drinks which complement particular choices.

At the end of the meal, a customer's credit or debit card can be swiped directly into the H-Hot unit at the table, eliminating any potential for skimming or other card fraud. A belt-mounted printer produces similar receipts to those of a traditional cash desk.
