Harry's Bar owner to be tried for tax fraud
The owner of Venice's former Michelin-starred restaurant Harry's Bar is due to stand trial for tax evasion to the tune of L1.57b (£500,000).
Arrigo Cipriani, who owns more than 10 restaurants in Venice, Buenos Aires and New York, has denied the charges.
Harry's Bar, which lost its Michelin star this year, became famous under the patronage of such regulars as Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles.
It was co-founded in 1931 by Cipriani's father, Guiseppe, who invented the Bellini cocktail and carpaccio, the dish of paper-thin slices of raw beef.
