Harvey Nicks picks up the pace in leeds

Harvey Nichols, the upmarket retailer, is taking another step in its drive to become a leading light in the restaurant industry, with plans for a brasserie at its latest store in Leeds.

The company opens the shop - its first regional department store - at the beginning of October and is scouring restaurants in the north for recruits.

The restaurant will be called the Fourth Floor Café & Bar and its head chef, Simon Shaw, joins from Armstrongs in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Like the retailer's well-known Fifth Floor restaurant in London, the Leeds venture will open independently of the shop. It will have 100 seats and average spend per head will be £12.50 for lunch and £25 for dinner. Harvey Nichols is also now looking for development opportunities in Glasgow and Manchester.
