Hotel des Clos hopes for dry start to 2001

Flood damage has caused Nottingham's Hotel des Clos to close for business for the rest of the year.

The eight-bedroom hotel, which has a 32-seat restaurant, was flooded last week when the River Trent, which runs adjacent to the building, burst its banks.

General manager Daniel Ralley said: "The property is pretty much a scene of devastation. We just hope to come back next year bigger and better than we were before because we will not be beaten."

The business is insured against loss of earnings and the 12 staff are still being paid, although they are unable to work.

Sat Bains, head chef at Hotel des Clos, has been tipped for one Michelin star in the forthcoming guide (Caterer, 9 November, page 52).
