Hotel stars get red shift

Twenty hotels, including London's One Aldwych, trade black stars for coveted red stars in the AA Hotel Guide 2004.

All are automatically included in the AA Top 200, a list introduced last year to single out red-star establishments, considered a notch above their black-star counterparts.

High-profile casualties from last year's list include the Lygon Arms in Broadway, Worcestershire, which has had a year of uncertainty leading up to its sale from the Savoy Group; Haley's Hotel and Restaurant in Leeds; Holyrood hotel in Edinburgh; and Llangoed Hall in Llyswen, Powys. All go down from four red to four black stars.

The Capital hotel in London rises from four red to five red stars.
