Regent boss's boost
Stephen Haupt, chief executive of Regent Inns, which owns the Walkabout pubs, Bar Risa, Jongleurs comedy clubs and Pals bars, received a salary of £187,000 plus an £18,000 bonus in the year ended June 2001. This year he received a £7,000 increase, taking his basic annual wage to £194,000.
Noise warning
Workers in pubs and clubs run a definite risk of damaging their hearing because of long periods of exposure to loud music, the Health & Safety Executive has warned.
Holiday Care award
The 2002 winner of the biennial Holiday Care award is Roger Smith, sales and marketing director of Accor Hotels UK. Holiday Care, the organisation that provides holiday and travel information to disabled people, made the announcement at a dinner at the Copthorne Tara hotel in London on Monday night.

It was named Best Business Innovation of the Year at the UK Association of Online Publishers awards in London last week. The judges said: "It's a great example of e-learning, and demonstrates the most innovative use of technology we have seen in the business-to-business sector.
