English Heritage, the Government's conservation watchdog, is backing nine Scarborough restaurants and cafés in opposing plans to replace a block of seaside toilets with a Harry Ramsden's fish and chip shop. They claim it will obscure the view of the harbour and destroy part of the resort's heritage.

City Bars & Restaurants, which plans an Ofex flotation in the next three months, has announced a promotional link-up with rugby club Wasps. The players will use its new lounge bar, the 10 Room in Piccadilly's Café Royal, as their post-match venue.
thanksgiving service
A service of thanksgiving will be held at the Savoy's Queen's Chapel at noon on 11 March in honour of Olive Barnett OBE, who died in November aged 91. Barnett, who created the training department at the Savoy Group after joining in 1928, played a role in trade bodies in training, recruitment and promotional issues.
