Industry leaders head for Cairo conference

Now in its 40th year, the International Hotel & Restaurant Association Annual Congress centres on the theme "Managing Through Rapidly Changing Times". Taking place in Cairo, Egypt, the five-day conference features about 25 speakers.

Among the tourism industry representatives are those from the World Tourism Organisation, the International Federation of Tour Operators, and the World Travel & Tourism Council. Speakers from the hospitality industry include: Ashley Spencer, vice president of Hilton International; Martin Franck, vice president of human resources for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Starwood Hotels & Resorts; and Alan Orlob, vice president of loss prevention at Marriott International.

Discussions include the following topics:

  • How will tourism adapt to the changing world environment?
  • When change occurs, is it business as usual or time for something new?
  • How to attract the astute investor and transform that investment into a profitable product
  • Venturing into new lands: development strategies in changing times
  • Investing in people: changing patterns in hotel and restaurant careers and in the global travel industry
  • Investing in food

The programme includes sight-seeing trips to the pyramids and the Cairo museum.

Registration costs €1,095 for International Hotel & Restaurant Association members and €1,295 for non-members. For more details, see www.ih-ra.com/events
