Lake District chef denies groping waitress
A chef accused of groping one of the waitresses at a Lake District pub told police he did it accidentally when he reached for an onion, a court has heard.
Moses Munyua was arrested after the woman complained that he had molested her in a store cupboard while she was fetching some cereal for her breakfast, reports the Carlisle News & Star.
The 42-year-old insisted that he had done no more than touch her on the shoulder so that he did not lose his balance while he was looking through the vegetables and has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual touching.
Prosecuting counsel Ciaran Rankin told the jury that the woman started to get "unwanted attention" from Munyua almost as soon as she joined the staff at the pub.
One morning last June she went to the outside store for her breakfast and as she bent down to reach the bottom shelf Munyua came up behind her and grabbed her round the waist, he alleged.
"He seemed quite determined," Rankin said. "When she tried to get away he simply altered his grip, and grabbed his hand around her middle."
The trial continues.
