Leisure managers fare well in salary survey
The hospitality industry has the unenviable reputation of poorly paying its workforce, but do managers fare as badly? Not according to a recent leisure industry survey.
The report, conducted by personnel and training expert Janet Salmon, shows the leisure industry can offer a comfortable lifestyle at top levels.
As well as the healthy absolute figures shown in the table, once management level is reached, better rises can be expected. Management salaries rose by an average of 3.8% during the past year against an increase of 3.1% on average for the entire leisure industry workforce.
Over 800 job holders were interviewed across 65 publicly quoted companies for the survey, between February and June of this year. The sectors covered ranged from sports and recreational venues to pubs, restaurants and hotels.
Bonuses also help to bump up the total salary paid. Directors received an average bonus of 28% of their salary in 1995 and managers received 15%.
