Liverpool hospital workers reject pay deal
Hotel services staff at two Liverpool hospitals could go on strike after rejecting a pay offer by their employer Sodexho.
The GMB union said its 320 members at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen hospitals had rejected a 7.2% pay increase backdated to 1 April 2002 saying the offer amounted to just £4.45 an hour. It now intends to ballot members on industrial action.
Jackie French, GMB regional organiser, said its members had expectations of earning £5 an hour in line with recent awards to local authority workers. Sodexho said it was "extremely disappointed" that the offer had been rejected.
