Macdonald to open in Peebles and Sheffield

Macdonald Hotels is investing nearly £30m in two new hotels in Scotland and northern England. The 100-bedroom Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Country Club is due to open in spring 2003 near Peebles in the Scottish borders.

The hotel will include conference facilities for up to 180 people, a leisure and health club, three bars, and a 124-seat restaurant.

The £11.7m development is a joint venture between Macdonald Hotels, Royal Bank Private Equity, Bank of Scotland, Guild Ventures and local entrepreneur Tom Renwick.

Macdonald Hotels is set to open an £18m hotel in Sheffield in spring 2004. Plans are being prepared with building scheduled to start this autumn.

The 150-bedroom hotel will be part of a £120m city-centre regeneration, which includes two public gardens, an art gallery, offices, flats, and shops.
