Man quizzed over hotel blaze

A 21-year-old man from the Bolton area was arrested last week on suspicion of starting the Bolton Moat House hotel fire on 24 April in which two people died (Caterer, 26 April, page 4).

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Buchanan said: "We've interviewed him and he's been released on bail while we make further enquiries."

The fire was started by a naked flame being held to a mattress propped against a corridor wall.

Criminal profiler and arson expert Dr Kate Fritson, who assisted Greater Manchester police during the investigation, said that possible motives for arson included personal grudges, revenge against an employer, and the destruction of criminal evidence.
