Men beaten and robbed in Bristol hotel

Two men were viciously beaten and robbed of more than £100,000 in their hotel suite in Bristol last week. The attack happened in the £185-a-night King Suite at the Avon Gorge Hotel, Clifton, the day after the men had checked in.

Police say that they were visited by three men of Middle Eastern appearance who were seen shortly afterwards fleeing from the hotel and speeding away in a red Sierra Sapphire, which they think may then have been abandoned in the city.

A spokesman for Avon & Somerset police said the names of the men and the weapons used in the attack were not being revealed, but it is thought the incident was a business deal that went wrong.

The victims were treated for head and chest injuries at Bristol Royal Infirmary and one, said to be a Swansea businessman who runs three pubs in Wales, was detained.
