MP condemns Pizza Hut cuts

Pizza Hut has been accused in Parliament of having a "callous disregard" for staff after stopping late-night taxi payments to pay the minimum wage.

Angela Smith, Labour MP for Basildon, appealed to President of the Board of Trade Margaret Beckett for "an urgent debate" on how employers treat the new legislation.

Smith said the axing of late-night taxis (Caterer, 22 April, page 4) "is against the spirit of the National Minimum Wage Act".

Beckett urged those that believe they are being "unfairly disadvantaged" to contact a DTI helpline or arbitration service Acas.
