New awards cater for suppliers

Food and drink suppliers have the chance to be honoured with the launch of the new Catering Update Excellence in Food and Drink Awards. The winners of 14 award categories will receive their trophies on 7 November at a lunchtime presentation at the Landmark Hotel in London. Out of the winners, one will be chosen to receive the highest accolade, the Gold Excellence Award.

The awards are designed to reward excellence among products and raise the profile of quality food and drink. Awards categories include: bakery and sandwiches; confectionery; desserts and puddings; alcoholic drinks; and hot beverages. Entry to the competition closed on 4 July. Both new and established products may be entered by manufacturers and distributors.

Home economists will be preparing the products according to the manufacturer's instructions and then the products will be judged by a panel of industry figures, including chefs, operators, food and wine writers and product development experts. A team of youngsters will be judging the children's category.

Shortlisted products are listed in the September issue of Catering Update. To buy tickets for the awards ceremony, contact Shiva.Hobson@rbi.co.uk or telephone 020 8652 3094.
