New Life in Manchester

Whitbread's second Life Café bar-restaurant opens in Manchester on 29 July.

The site, on Peter Street, covers 18,000sq ft and can hold 1,450 people. Facilities include a 120-seat restaurant and a late-night venue downstairs.

The first Life Café opened in Liverpool in 1998, developed by entrepreneurs Jeremy Roberts, Tim Bacon and Dave Hinds. They sold it to Whitbread last year but have remained on board to expand the chain.

Two further sites have been secured, one in Leeds and one in London. They are set to open in May and August 2001 respectively.

Whitbread aims to have eight Life Café outlets open by the end of 2002.
