Make them pasty-faced

Waldens has launched a hand-held breakfast in the form of a pasty. The snack contains sausage, baked beans, tomato and egg in a flaky pastry casing. A second version substitutes smoked bacon for the sausage. They come frozen and uncooked for on-premise bake-off.

Just the thing for squares

A condiment set with a futuristic design has been added to Dudson's Geometrix range. Coloured bright red, the pepper shaker is a pyramid, the salt cellar a sphere, and the vinegar or oil bottle a tower. They are intended for informal dining where the tableware makes a statement.

Rice and tidy

Samsung has introduced a version of its commercial rice cooker with an attractive fascia for positioning on tray-line serveries. The two finishes available are jet black enamel and stainless steel. The cookers will cook rice in 12 minutes and capacity is enough for 24 portions.

Breast alternative to chicken

Bernard Matthews has launched three new split turkey fillet steaks in its fine-dining range, aimed at pubs and casual-dining restaurants that want an alternative poultry menu item to chicken. The fillets are whole-muscle cut from a turkey breast and will cook from frozen. The flavours are natural turkey, lemon and tarragon, and hot and spicy. They come in cases of 12 x 200g.

New York but no big apple

Frozen food distributor Fairway has added a range of canapés (pictured, right) to its starter range. Titled the New York range, the selection includes caviare, cheese and prawn-based items. They come packed in units of 10 x 48 mixed items.

Run the gêteau gauntlet

Cearns & Brown has added a budget-priced two-layer gêteau in six flavours to its dessert range.

The flavours are double chocolate, chocolate fudge, strawberry, Black Forest, coffee mandarin, and orange and lemon. Each gêteau will serve 18 slices, but is not pre-portioned.

Each has two layers of sponge filled with a layer of fresh whipped cream and either a fruit sauce or jam with a cream rosette and fresh fruit topping, except the chocolate fudge gêteau, which is filled and coated with fudge from a traditional US recipe.

An Unusual dessert for the pub market is Crêpe Parcels from Brake Bros. Available in raspberry or chocolate flavours, the parcel is an egg-rich crêpe wrapped around a flavoured mousse and tied with a ribbon. They are thaw-and-serve and come in boxes of 10.
