Matsuhisa: third London opening
Iconic restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa, entrepreneur BS Ong and Hollywood star Robert De Niro are opening a new London restaurant, late-licence lounge bar and club. The trio have acquired an 8,000sq ft, two-storey property on Berkeley Street, with a capacity of about 500 and a 2am licence. As well as the main restaurant, the new operation will offer a more informal dining environment than London's original Nobu at the Metropolitan hotel on Old Park Lane. Average spend is expected to be similar. It is understood Matsuhisa will come to London to establish the new menu, but no permanent chef has yet been named. Property agents Knight Frank acted for Matsuhisa and associates to acquire the site. Head of leisure Mark Cutler said: "No one has ever combined food and fashion with the same ‚lan and attention to detail as Nobu, the ultimate destination restaurant in London." Davis Coffer Lyons acted for the landlord, City Sites Estates. *Source: Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine, 29 April - 5 May 2004*
