Gisborough gains
Macdonald Hotels' Gisborough Hall in Guisborough, Cleveland, has opened following an £8m refurbishment which took more than 18 months to complete. The 19th-century family home has been extended, with 19 bedrooms in the original building and 52 in a new wing that also houses conference and banqueting facilities for up to 400 guests.
Newquay hostel
Interpub opens its eighth St Christopher's hostel, in Newquay, Cornwall, on 15 August. The 60-bed hostel overlooks Towan Beach. It will have a bar, diner, Internet access and an open-air hot tub and sauna. It is aimed at international backpackers and surfers, with prices starting from £12 a night. The group has three hostels in Edinburgh and four in London.
La Tasca turns 21
La Tasca has opened its 21st tapas bar and restaurant, in Edinburgh. It has 190 seats on two floors. The restaurant, formerly offices on South Charlotte Street, employs 40 staff. It has been refurbished at a cost of £700,000. Owner the Restaurant People Group will open another La Tasca in Edinburgh's Omni leisure centre in September.
Costa's abbey habit
Costa Coffee opens in Liverpool's Edge Lane shopping centre on 5 May. It is inside an Abbey National branch, which in turn is in a Homebase DIY store. Costa already has 22 shops in Abbey National branches nationwide. The latest opened in Bolton last week. Its other retail partners include Ottakar's, Waterstone's, WH Smith, Island Cruises, and Roadchef.
