Room at the top
The Top Floor, a 270-seat restaurant and espresso bar on the sixth floor of the Peter Jones department store in London, opens on 5 June. The restaurant, under a glass-roofed atrium, is part of a £100m refurbishment of the store.
Conference plans
Macdonald Dunkenhalgh hotel in Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire, is investing £500,000 in a new two-storey conference centre which will add six meeting rooms catering for up to 250 delegates. The hotel will be able to cater for up to 1,500 people when the extension is completed in October.
Chowki delayed
The opening of Chowki, now due on 10 June, has been delayed by nearly a month because of building problems related to ventilation of the dining area. The 150-seat Indian restaurant near London's Piccadilly Circus has a further 60 seats in the basement bar.
Eurest's 300th
Eurest, a division of Compass, has opened its 300th Sainsbury's staff restaurant in Chichester, West Sussex. It has a £40m annual turnover contract to supply catering for staff at all 431 Sainsbury's stores.
Travel inn doubles
The second phase of the London Travel Inn Kensington was completed last week with the opening of another 94 bedrooms to make a total of 184. The former Swallow International hotel on Cromwell Road was bought by Whitbread in 2000. The rest of the property is being converted to a 216-bedroom Marriott, which will open in spring 2003.
