Oporto declares, vintage year
Latest news from Oporto sees the Symington family declaring the 1994 vintage for Graham's, Dow's and Warre's.
They are joined by IDV's Croft and Delaforce. This is the 24th declaration of the century for the Symington family's portfolio and, according to them, there was never any doubt during the 1994 vintage that excellent wines were being made.
The viticultural year had been ideal: a wet winter was followed by a good growing season. Reports say the 1994 vintage will be remembered for the "excellent floral bouquet of the fermenting musts in all the wineries" and its deep-purple colour. The wines closed up well, keeping firm tannins. The classic violet nose gave away its vintage characteristics.
Samples of 1994 Dow's, Warre's and Graham's are available through John E Fells & Sons on 0181-749 3661. For the 1994 Croft and Delaforce, contact Percy Fox & Co on 01279 633260.
