Palm computer takes down diners' orders
Australian developed Waiterpad hand held electronic order pad system is based on the IBM Workpad C3 with a pen operated touch screen bonded to a radio control unit. Together, these components enable food and drink orders to be dispatched instantly from the table to the relevant production area once diners have made their choices.
A message facility enables the server to type any specific instructions/messages so that orders can be customised if necessary. Battery life averages about 12 hours between charges. A 4-terminal system with central PC-based station plus 2-3 printers costs out around £12,000.
