Parallel is the winner at new racecourse

Parallel, the leisure division of Aramark, has won the contract to supply catering and fine dining at the first racecourse to be built in the UK since 1927.

The all-weather track, to be built in Great Leighs, Essex, is due to open in the spring of 2005 and will include a fine-dining restaurant overseen by Brian Turner. He said the restaurant would serve "simple, honest food at great-value prices".

As well as racing and horse training, the course has been designed to host conferences and weddings and will also include a fitness centre and a nightclub, caf‚s and bars.

Aramark won the battle to supply the racecourse with all-year-round catering after beating off bids from Sodexho and Compass, who cater for most of the UK's 59 racecourses.
