Patients chill out
Closer to an exclusive hotel than a healthcare facility, the 33-bedroom Devonshire hospital in London's Mayfair recently installed four Hoshizaki DSM12 cubelet ice dispensers in each of its four wards.
The machine enables the two waiters who serve à la carte meals to hospital patients to dispense fresh ice straight into glasses as required. Hygiene was a particular attraction of the units because airborne bacteria, one of the main sources of ice machine contamination, has little opportunity to enter the machine.
The Hoshizaki DSM12 suits both self-service cafeteria and hospital usage with a production rate of up to 60 kg per 24 hours with 1.9kg of ice storage. Ice-making is based on a stainless steel auger which shaves ice as it forms in a cylinder, followed by compression into cubes in a extruder/cutter.
