Alistair Risk has been named general manager of the Letham Grange Resort, near Carnoustie, Angus. He was manager of the Marine Hotel, North Berwick.

Simon Barker is the new general manager of the Stakis Harewood hotel in London. He was deputy general manager at the London St Ermin's hotel.

Dermot Deloughry has joined Edinburgh's Forte Posthouse as general manager. Having managed hotels in Hong Kong and the USA, he was executive assistant manager at the Sheraton Luxury Collection hotel in Houston, Texas.

Effie Kennedy, general manager of the Hotel Eilean Iarmain on the Isle of Skye, has been recruited to take over as general manager of the Monte do Casal Country House Hotel in the Algarve, Portugal.

Catherine Klev has been appointed general manager of La Tasca in Deansgate, Manchester. She worked for Greenalls Inns, managing the Galley Bistro in Weymouth, Dorset, and the Wedgwood in Northampton.

Bekir Kaya is the new restaurant manager for Opus 70 on Stratton Street, London. He joins the restaurant from the five-star May Fair Inter-Continental London, where he was room service manager.

Lawrence Alexander, previously sales and marketing director at Jarvis Hotels, has become the company's first commercial director. He takes responsibility for all retail sales at hotel level. Hugh Taylor, previously head of marketing, has been promoted to marketing director.

John Evans has taken over as general manager of Arcadian's Wood Hall hotel at Linton, West Yorkshire. He was previously general manager of the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Birmingham.

Martin Nicholls has become president of the National Association of Toastmasters for a second time. A professional toastmaster for almost 40 years, he was also president in 1986.

James Howard has taken over as catering and hospitality development manager of Groombridge Place Gardens in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. He was general manager of Sankey's Seafood Restaurant, also in Tunbridge Wells.

Ron Collacott has been promoted to deputy managing director of Leicester-based contract caterer Brian Smith. He was formerly assistant managing director.

Penny Stirland has been appointed sales manager for Yvonne Jackson, the conference and hotel booking agent based in Lymm, Cheshire. She was previously functions and events manager for Manchester United Football Club.

Alma Sheridan is the new sales manager for Manchester's £5m Quality hotel, which opens in February. She was previously north-west sales manager for Choice Hotels.
