Crowley to succeed knight at runnymede

Susan Crowley is to take over from John Knight as general manager of the four-star Runnymede Hotel at Egham, Surrey.

She was previously general manager at the London Kensington Hilton for nearly three years, and before that ran the Plaza on Hyde Park.

Mr Knight, who was previously deputy general manager to Michael O'Dwyer, leaves the 171-bedroom Runnymede at the end of the year.

Norwich group recruits Evans

Peter Evans, who spent 34 years with Forte, has been appointed a non-executive director of a leading Norwich hotel company.

Mr Evans, whose last job at Forte was quality assurance director, joins the board of Property Partnerships' hotels subsidiary, which operates the Norwich and Nelson hotels.

The announcement came as the company reported half-year pre-tax profits for its hotels up 75% to £416,000.

Weadcock takes chair at ciga

Daniel Weadock, president and chief operating officer of ITT Sheraton Corporation, has been elected chairman of the new board of directors at Ciga, the luxury Italian group.

ITT Sheraton is now the majority shareholder in the group, having acquired 70.32% of Ciga capital stock. Mr Weadock is joined on the board by three other Sheraton executives.

Bodlender heads son of Horwath

Jonathan Bodlender has been appointed chairman of Horwath Hospitality Consulting, the new UK consultancy of Horwath International.

Mr Bodlender has been associated with Horwath in the UK since 1968.

He was previously non-executive chairman of Horwath Consulting, which recently changed its name to BDO Hospitality Consulting.

Murray moves up at Hilton

Sandy Murray, formerly assistant food and beverage manager at the London Hilton on Park Lane, has been appointed food and beverage manager of the Manchester Airport Hilton.

Mr Murray is joined by executive chef Andreas Schafer from the Munich City Hilton, while conference and banqueting manager Ian Marchment was formerly at Grants of St James.

Bremner forms own consultancy

Colin Bremner, former business development manager at Compass Services, has formed his own consultancy, based in Rutland, Leicestershire. Rutland Foodservice Consultancy will specialise in preparation of tenders for contracts, purchasing comparisons, market research and training.

Obituary

VIC Dewhurst, who retired in 1981 as senior lecturer at the Ealing Hotel School - now part of Thames Valley University - died last month.

Mr Dewhurst began his career as page boy at London's Grosvenor House hotel in 1933, returning there for 15 years as first head waiter following service in the Second World War.

He entered the teaching profession in 1964 as a lecturer in food and beverage studies at the Borough Polytechnic, London, moving to Ealing later that same year.
