An infra-red thermomter which looks like a marker pen has been introduced for applications such as non-contact monitoring of food temperatures and heating and ventilation checking.
The Pyropen measures in the range minus 20¼C to +500¼C to plus/minus 1 per cent and displays current value, last value plus maximum, minimum in a choice of C or F. The price is under £100.
