Power hearing adjourned
Former Belgo director Tim Power, who was due to be sentenced over motoring offences last Thursday (19 April), has had his hearing adjourned because he failed to turn up at a probation meeting.
Power was found guilty of the fraudulent use of the personalised P9WER number plate on his £70,000 silver Ferrari, and the fraudulent use of tax discs on the car (Caterer, 29 March, page 14).
Power claimed he had been too busy pulling off deals for Belgo and the K-Bar chain to attend to such mundane matters, which were left to two chauffeurs who tended his £3m fleet of 10 cars.
His sentence has now been adjourned until 14 May. Defence barrister Ragveer Chand said that Power, who lost his multi-million pound fortune trading in stocks and shares in late 1999, had missed the probation meeting needed for the pre-sentence report because he was looking for work.
