Ready, steady, espresso

BARISTAS around the country should be sharpening their espresso skills in preparation for the National Barista of the Year competition.
Organised by Brasilia coffee, the competition is open to professional baristas and the top prize of a two-week holiday for two in Brazil, plus a trophy, will go to the barista who most impresses the judges across five criteria - taste, speed and efficiency, technical expertise, presentation, and passion and flair.
A prize of a domestic espresso machine and grinder will go to the top barista with no more than one year's experience in the trade.
Five regional finals will culminate in a grand final to be held in November.
