Restaurateur shot in leg as robbery plan goes wrong

An Edinburgh restaurateur is recovering in hospital after being shot at his home in what police are describing as a bungled robbery.

Antonio Crolla was shot in the thigh when three masked raiders burst into his home shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday 21 May.

His wife, Anna Crolla, answered the door to the men and he was shot as he tried to help her. The gang ran off empty handed. It is believed the gun may have gone off accidentally.

Crolla, who has undergone two operations on his leg at Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, is in a stable condition.

He owns Dario's Pizza and Spaghetti House in Lothian Road, Bar Napoli in Hanover Street and a new 70-seat Turkish restaurant Nargile, formerly a Bella Pasta, also in Hanover Street.
