Sky's the limit for high flyer Tighe

A former kitchen porter has risen to become a manager at the four-star Copthorne Hotel Merry Hill Dudley, where he heads up the hotel's largest department.

In his new role as meetings and events manager, 28-year-old Matthew Tighe is responsible for the planning, staffing and budgets of all events held at the hotel.

Within a year of joining the hotel in 1993 as kitchen steward, Tighe had moved over to the meetings and events department as a waiter. He was promoted to head waiter in 1997 and became senior events assistant in 1998.

General manager Philip Bell attributed Tighe's rapid ascent to his hard work and dedication, the hotel's development and training programme and its "positive attitude to rewarding outstanding members of staff".
