Soho House set for BBC Television Centre

Soho House, the group of clubs, hotels and restaurants loved by the media, is to set up home in the former BBC Television Centre.

It has confirmed to The Times that it has signed a deal with the property developer Stanhope to operate a club with 47 bedrooms, restaurants and a swimming pool on the roof top at the centre in White City, west London.

Stanhope bought the doughnut-shaped property on a five-hectare site in 2010 for £200m, with financial backing from Mitsui Fudosan of Japan, and Alberta Investment Management Corporation of Canada.

Nick Jones, founder of Soho House, told The Times that moving into the BBC's former home would be a perfect fit for the group "given how many of our members are drawn from the television and film industries".

The property is expected to pay homage to the history of television.

"When we're selecting a building for any new Soho House we always look for somewhere with an interesting story or a rich history," said Jones. "Television Centre is just that, with so many iconic moments in television history having emanated from within its studios."
