sommelier LARVIN JOINS SELSDON

BARRIE Larvin, a veteran of the London hotel-restaurant scene and master sommelier, has joined Selsdon Park hotel near Croydon, Surrey, as restaurant manager.

Mr Larvin (pictured right) has spent the past year at London's Lanesborough hotel as restaurant manager of the Conservatory. He has also previously worked at the Dorchester, Grosvenor House and Brown's hotels.

FORTE lifts veil on meridien team

FORTE has finally announced the executive management structure for its Méridien chain, acquired in November, after reaching agreement with the French works council.

Managing director Randolph Guthrie will head a team including Ian Dyson as chief financial officer, Dr Jonathan Smilansky as director of human resources and administration and Bernard Lambert as deputy managing director.

Mr Lambert, who was formerly Méridien's executive vice-president of operations, will also look after North America as one of five regional managing directors within the group.

Three of the others, Jacques Motet (Africa/Caribbean), Rudolph Jurcik (Europe) and Jean-Gabriel Peres (Asia/Pacific), are Méridien colleagues, while Gerald Lawless, who will look after the Middle East, was previously regional director for Forte Grand in the same region.

duo join regents park hilton

LONDON'S Regents Park Hilton has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Aiden McAuley as executive assistant manager and Richard Adler as sales director.

Mr McAuley was previously deputy general manager at the Royal Berkshire hotel, Ascot, Berkshire, and Mr Adler was sales and marketing manager at the Stafford Hotel in London.

Wilks does good by george

MARTIN Wilks has been appointed general manager of the George Hotel in Huddersfield, part of Principal Hotels.

Mr Wilks, formerly general manager at the Hind Hotel at Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, is joined by a new sales manager, James Turner, ex-conference and banqueting manager at the Merrion Thistle, Leeds.

KAREN Dalley, 23-year-old assistant manager at Llangoed Hall, near Brecon, was killed in a car accident earlier this month.

Ms Dalley had joined the hotel only recently, having previously worked at the Elms at Abberley, Hereford & Worcester, and Billesley Manor near Stratford-upon-Avon. She attended Halesowen College, West Midlands.

PAT Deeson, co-proprietor with her husband Allan of Nivingston House Hotel, near Kinross, and Parklands Hotel, Perth, died recently following a long illness.

NIGEL TEASDALE, sometime marketing director of Rank Hotels, has become director of sales and marketing at MeetingSystems Worldwide, the travel marketing services group.

ANDREW SHAPLAND to executive director, UK and Europe, for the Small Exclusive Hotels of Southern Africa consortium, from the Secretariat of Tourism, Malta.

SARAH FRENCH to leisure product manager, Queens Moat Houses, from corporate desk manager for the company's Queens-Line reservations system.

SANDRA MULLIGAN to sales and marketing manager, Charing Cross Tower Hotel, Glasgow, from the same role at the Trident Hotel, Kinsale, County Cork.

NIGEL CLARKE, director of conferences and incentives for Forte, has taken on membership of the council of the Meetings Industry Association.

OLIVIER FREOUR to restaurant manager, Swan Diplomat Hotel, Streatley-on-Thames, Berkshire, from head waiter.

ALEX KYRIAKIDIS to partner in charge of Arthur Andersen's worldwide hospitality and leisure services, after five years in a similar role for Europe.

SIMON ROPER to travel trade sales manager, Friendly Hotels, from sales and reservations manager, Sty-Al Hoteliers.

LEISA BLACKADDER to restaurant manageress at Mitchells Bar & Restaurant, Glasgow, from a similar position at the Buttery's Belfry restaurant, also in Glasgow.
