Scottish & Newcastle fell 5.8% to 509p. Earlier in the week it unveiled annual pre-tax profits up 6% to £415m. The results were at the low end of market expectations.

Oriental Restaurants, which this week announced a pre-tax loss of £2.3m for the year to 31 March, was not so lucky and fell 1.6% to 62p.
