Subs to surface in King's Road

Subs Café Take Away, the US hot and cold filled baguettes concept, is hoping to open a fourth outlet in London's King's Road next month, with a further 12 UK units planned over the next year.

The existing Subs outlets - two in London and one in Bath - have between 20 and 30 seats, and each serve about 1,700 people a week at an average spend of £3. Take-aways account for half the business.

The chain was launched early last year in the UK by Peter Byfield, who, together with several investors, bought an operating licence from the 63-strong US chain.

Mr Byfield, who set up the School Dinners restaurant in London 14 years ago, plans eventually to sell franchises as part of his ultimate aim of developing the chain nationwide.
