Swallows make a sum of Marriotts

Eight Swallow hotels in the UK have been reflagged as Marriott hotels this month.

They are in Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Norwich, Gosforth in Newcastle, Northampton, Inverness and Bexleyheath in Kent.

Marriott now has two hotels in Bristol. Its new Marriott was formerly the Swallow Bristol Royal.

The renaming is part of a £50m conversion of 26 Swallow hotels bought by Marriott's parent company Whitbread in January for £578m.

Ten Swallow hotels have been renamed since June and the remaining 16 are scheduled for conversion by the end of 2001.
