Threats force frogs' legs off the menu

A fish-and-chip shop in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, has been forced to stop selling frogs' legs after receiving hate mail from animal rights extremists.

Beverley Smith, who runs the Hole in the Wall in the Grangetown area of the city, received about a dozen threatening letters.

Smith said: "A lot of them said that if we continued selling frogs' legs then we would lose our legs. We had to get in touch with the police, because it was not pleasant at all." The frogs' legs had been a success with many customers.
