Two more stars for pubs

Two British pubs have just gained their first Michelin stars, bringing the number of starred pubs to three.

They are the Star Inn in Harome, near Helmsley in North Yorkshire, and the Olive Branch in Clipsham, Rutland.

The owners said their awards showed that people increasingly want to eat good food, at decent prices, in relaxed surroundings.

Chef Andrew Pern has owned the Star Inn with his wife Jacquie for six years. He cooks modern British dishes, using local produce. He said: "People can come in a rugby shirt and have a pint and crisps or pan-fried foie gras."

Ben Jones, Marcus Welford and chef Sean Hope have owned the Olive Branch for a couple of years. Jones said that they were overwhelmed.
