Elephant & Castle
Honeycombe Leisure has bought the Elephant & Castle Hotel, Newtown, Powys, from father and son Geoff and Ross Varley for close to the asking price of £950,000. The deal included three high street shops and two flats as well as the 36-bedroomhotel, which has two bars,a ballroom for 350, a conference room, restaurant, lounges, a six-room private residence, parking and gardens. Agent Sidney Phillips acted for the sellers.
Three Wheat Heads
The Three Wheat Heads Inn, Thropton, near Rothbury, Northumberland, has been sold to Danny Scullion for just below the asking price of £175,000. The 17th-century coaching inn includes a55-seat restaurant, three letting bedrooms and owner's accommodation. Christie & Co sold the business on behalf of Gordon Young and Stephen Crake.
Old Hill Inn
Colin and Sabena Martin have bought the Old Hill Inn at Chapel-le-Dale, near Ingleton, North Yorkshire, from Alex Bishara. The Martins plan to re-open the Dales country inn after a short period of refurbishment. The property was listed at £250,000 with Christie & Co.
The Bull
The Bull at Blackmore End near Braintree, Essex, has been sold on behalf of Balls Brothers, the City wine shippers and merchants. The new owner, Beachfield UK, already has a number of freehouses throughout the UK. The Grade II-listed, country freehouse was on the market at a price of £300,000 and sold by Robert Barry & Co.
