Hawkwell sold off
Hawkwell VCT, a joint venture between Corus & Regal Hotels and Close Brothers, has sold the 50-bedroom Hawkwell House hotel in Iffley, near Oxford, to investors for close to the £6m sought by agent Christie & Co. One of the buyers, Furlong Hotels, will manage the property.
The white idea
Businessman Paul Cripps has bought the Grade II-listed White Horse Inn at Compton Bassett, near Calne, Wiltshire, for more than £630,000. Cripps has let the 18th-century freehouse with eight rooms to the London Inn Group, which will manage it. Bettesworth was the agent.
Buyer for hermitage
Colin Roberts has sold the 25-bedroom Hermitage Park hotel in Coalville, Leicestershire, which he built 11 years ago. The buyer is Mark Williams, who ran a restaurant in Southampton. It sold for close to the £1.1m asked by Christie & Co. Roberts wants to focus on his other business, the Queen's hotel in Burton-on-Trent.
History in the making
Kent-based Gunn Hotels and Inns has bought the 200-year-old eight-bedroom St Michael's Inn at Leuchars, near St Andrews, Fife, for more than £600,000, from Graham and Brenda McKinney. Christie & Co was the agent.
Leasehold sold
John Medhurst has sold the leasehold of the Hoddington Arms in Upton Grey, near Basingstoke, Hampshire, to David and Monika McCutcheon for close to the £110,000 asked by agent Christie & Co. It was licensed in 1806 and has two restaurants.
