Under new management
Pike and Eel hooked
The 12-bedroom Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina has been bought by local hotelier Rex Wadsworth. Originally a 17th century inn, the hotel, in Needingworth, Cambridgeshire, has an 80-cover restaurant, and was bought from receivers for an undisclosed sum through agent Christie & Co.
Wadsworth already owns the 67-bedroom Dolphin hotel in St Ives, some three miles from the Pike and Eel.
New berth for Ship
Middlesex-based Shepperton Hotels has acquired its third UK property with the purchase of the Ship hotel in Weybridge, Surrey.
The property, which dates from the 1700s, was owned by Grace Hotels, a subsidiary of investment firm Lehmann Brothers, which bought 29 Thistle hotels in 1998.
It has 39 bedrooms, function and conference facilities, and planning permission for 21 more bedrooms. Managing director Gareth Baragwanath said the group would look at planning options in the New Year.
Agent Robert Barry & Co achieved a sales price "reasonably close" to the £5.5m it was seeking.
NH invades Germany
Spanish hotel chain NH Hoteles has opened its first hotel in Germany under the NH brand. The four-star NH Frankfurt Niederrad was bought for €19.2m (£12.3m) from Dutch chain Krasnapolsky. Its rebranding is part of a wider expansion of the NH brand in Germany.
