Union wins Whitbread recognition
Workers at Whitbread's food-supply company have won official union recognition, while their fellow workers in Whitbread's hotel and restaurant divisions remain unrecognised.
The workers at Whitbread Food Logistics, the food distribution division of Whitbread, have voted to be represented by the Transport and General Workers' Union.
In a ballot of the 131 Manchester-based drivers, warehouse and administrative staff, 107 wanted formal union representation. The union will negotiate pay, hours and holiday on behalf of the workers.
The company delivers food to Whitbread's hotels and restaurants from depots in Reading, Berkshire, and Salford, Greater Manchester.
The union said it has a number of members scattered throughout Whitbread's hotel and restaurant divisions but it has no plans for a recognition vote.
A spokeswoman for Whitbread Hotels said: "We don't officially recognise any union and we don't record whether our staff are members of a union or not."
